Aiken Technical College’s Student Medical Assisting Association recently held a coat and blanket drive benefitting the Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons.

“Donations like blankets and coats collected through the incredible generosity and support from SMAA help the many people who come to seek our services,” said Andria Miller, community education coordinator with the Cumbee Center. “Oftentimes, someone who is going through interpersonal violence has to leave with very little personal belongings. Donation drives are a fantastic way to help ensure we at the Cumbee Center have enough clothing and other items readily available for our clients.”

SMAA, one of the College’s newest student organizations, wanted one of their first activities to be focused on meeting a community need. More than 75 items were collected during the coat and blanket drive and delivered to the Cumbee Center.

“I was very impressed with the number of coats and blankets that were donated,” said Cierra Smith, president of the SMAA. “We look forward to doing many other events, and possibly make this an annual drive at Aiken Technical College.”
