Cody Anderson Marks One Year as Local Owner of Historic George Funeral Home

Cody Anderson was a funeral director for George Funeral Home in 2018 when he decided it should be returned to local ownership. So, he bought the business from Orlando, Fla.-based Foundation Partners. On Aug. 24, 2018, he officially became the owner.
“I had a very strong desire to bring it back to local ownership,” Anderson said. “An opportunity presented itself, and through much prayer and hard work, I was able to make that happen.”
Founded in 1920 by D.M. George, the funeral home’s first location was in a home on Richland Avenue, between Laurens and Newberry streets. The current location, 211 Park Ave., was opened in 1948.
“George has been a locally owned business for most of its nearly 100 years of operation, so it is very important that we as an organization be locally focused,” said Anderson, who is only the fourth individual owner of the business.
Anderson said he is adamant about being involved in the community. He has been involved with several organizations, including the Green Boundary Club, Joye in Aiken, Aiken Center for the Arts, the Midland Valley Veterans’ Park, and the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association.
“The biggest highlight in my first year of ownership has been the amazing support we’ve seen from the Aiken community. We couldn’t have made it without the help of the community,” he said.
Anderson, a licensed funeral director and embalmer, said his biggest goal is to “make sure we are serving those who call upon us the best we can. We are also growing our team of caring professionals and continuing to make improvements to our historic building to improve the level of service and comfort we give.”
