Staff Report From South Carolina CEO

One day after Tropical Storm Michael impacted its service territory, SCE&G has completed primary restoration efforts and has returned to normal operations.
“In less than 24 hours, we restored service to more than 99 percent of the nearly 72,000 customers who lost power at the peak of the storm,” said SCE&G Emergency and Storm Response Coordinator John Raftery. “That’s a testament to the tireless work of the 2,800 SCE&G employees and contract workers who were involved in restoring power to our customers. We appreciate the patience of our customers as we’ve worked to get their lights back on quickly and safely.”
Raftery said damaged service drops in residential neighborhoods often present the final hurdle to achieving total restoration after a major storm. “As of this morning, all but a few hundred customers have power, and we continue working to restore service to those remaining customers,” he said. “It’s important for customers to remember that if they have any damage from the weatherhead down to their meter base, an electrician must repair it before SCE&G can reconnect the power.”
